Mohanlal fans are all waiting in anticipation for the grand release of L2 Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, on March 27, 2025. But not just Empuraan, Mohanlal has several films in his line-up. The Malayalam superstar had earlier confirmed that he would be joining hands with Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan. In the latest update, Ponman actor Sajin Gopu has also joined the big project. From the commencement of shooting to the expected release, here's everything that we know about the Mohanlal-Jithu Madhavan movie.
Mohanlal-Jithu Madhavan film to release in Onam 2026?
Various industry trackers online have said that the upcoming Mohanlal-Jithu Madhavan project will start shooting in August this year. The shooting is expected to go on for 220 days, i.e., seven months. If everything goes as planned, we can expect to see Mohanlal in a Jithu Madhavan film on the big screens during Onam 2026.

Like his previous Fahadh Faasil-starrer Aavesham, this film is also touted to be an action-comedy film. Fans are hoping for a complete, fun roller-coaster ride as Jithu Madhavan joins hands with Mohanlal.

Sajin Gopu, who shot to fame after he played the trusted Ambaan of Ranga, the gangster, is reportedly a part of the Mohanlal movie as well. Sajin also played a significant role in Jithu Madhavan's directorial debut Romancham, which was also much liked by the young audiences. With Aavesham, both Jithu Madhavan and Sajin Gopu cemented their place as talents to watch out for in Malayalam cinema.
Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan and other upcoming movies
After L2 Empuraan’s release in March, Mohanlal has Thudarum set to release in 2025. Though the Tharun Moorthy directorial was slated to release on January 30, 2025, it got postponed. The film marks Mohanlal’s onscreen reunion with Shobana. Mohanlal has already joined Sathyan Anthikad’s Hridayapoorvam which commenced shooting on February 10, 2025.
On the other hand, Jithu Madhavan and Fahadh Faasil are producing Painkili, which will be released on February 14, 2025. Anaswara Rajan, who was last seen in Rekhachithram, and Sajin Gopu will be headlining this film.
