Mohanlal fans have been thrilled by the latest rumours that suggest that Pulimurugan director Vysakh’s Monster could be a theatrical release; this after months of speculation that the makers have been in talks with various OTT platforms for a direct-to-OTT release.

If the producers, Aashirvaad Cinemas, decide to release the film in theatres, it would mark Mohanlal’s third such venture since the pandemic after Priyadarshan’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and B Unnikrishnan’s Aaraattu earlier this year. The superstar has had three direct OTT releases already – Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 and 12th Man, and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy.

Monster, which also has Lakshmi Manchu, Honey Rose and Sudev Nair, marks the reunion of the Pulimurugan team of Vysakh, scriptwriter Udaykrishna and Mohanlal. The movie, which is touted to be an investigative thriller packed with twists, has the actor playing a cop named Lucky Singh.

In an earlier interview with us, Udaykrishna had said, “It’s a film that has a premise, which is different from all my previous scripts. It’s an experimental film. I have kept aside the ingredients that are often seen in my movies for Monster, which is a thriller.” Director Vysakh too had said in recent interviews that Monster probably has the best script by Udaykrishna, who is next writing for B Unnikrishnan’s film with Mammootty that is set to go on floors later this month.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal, who has almost wrapped up shooting for his directorial debut Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, also has Shaji Kailas’ Alone set for release. According to sources, the movie will head for a direct-to-OTT release in August.

Set during the pandemic, the film will revolve around a man named Kalidas, who gets stranded in Kerala. Mohanlal had earlier told us that the movie will only him in the lead, while other characters appear through phone calls. Prithviraj and Manju Warrier are reportedly also part of the film.
