Ever since the time the film Monkey Man was announced, it has been making news and for all the right reasons. The film, which has been directed by Dev Patel (who has also acted in the film), has been released recently and has been getting rave reviews from all over. One of the USPs of the film stands in the form of Sikandar Kher, who has attempted the role of a lifetime. In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Sikandar Kher goes on to make a shockingly surprising revelation about his part in the film!

Sikandar Kher makes a BIG revelation!
When we asked him about whether he said an instant yes after hearing the script, or he took his time to give his nod, Sikandar Kher revealed, “I had tested (read ‘auditioned’) for the film about 12 years ago with Seher Latif (well-known casting director), who unfortunately is no more. At that time, it was Dev who had taken the test.

Knowing his penchant for getting into the skin of the character, we were so eager to know about the kind of preparations that he had done for the role, Sikandar said that, he had reached Indonesia three months before the film’s shooting and he also made it a point to stay there in order to understand the nuances of the role requirement. I even had to bulk up a bit and even had my action training twice a day.

Sikandar on whether Monkey Man has been inspired by the Nirbhaya case
While addressing the buzz about Monkey Man being inspired by the Nirbhaya case, Sikandar makes it a point to clear the air by saying, there is a situation which happens in the film, but that is nothing even close to the Nirbhaya case.

Indian audience and Monkey Man
For the unversed, the film Monkey Man has got a global release recently. But sadly, the film is facing a ban in India. When we asked Sikandar about the release date that the makers had planned for India (as per the latest reports, the release date in India is April 26, although there has been no confirmation about it), Sikandar said, he personally wasn’t aware of the date.

When we asked him whether the Indian release will have any portions edited to suit the taste and sentiments, he said he had no idea about it. But, in the same breath, he guaranteed one thing that the film will be a theatrical release in India and that it will be a beast of a film which everyone will surely enjoy!

Anupam Kher’s relentless support
When asked about whether his father Anupam Kher was supportive in his decision to do Monkey Man, Sikandar said that, “When he got to know that the film is going to festivals, he was the first person to tell me to go and be a part of all this as its really important. He has been a great support for me throughout. None of this would have been possible without the support of my father”.
