When the movie first came out on May 30, it was praised for its unique take on the retro-style narrative. It began streaming on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium at 12 am on July 8 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi apart from Malayalam. After its OTT release, the movie is expected to get the appreciation it deserves even though it did not bring many people to theatres. Viewers liked it for its vintage settings and other aspects. Moonwalk was also expected to evoke the nostalgia of the 1990s and be hailed as a cult classic years later.

Malayalam's popular films Padakkalam, starring Suraj Venjaramoodu as well as Sharaf U Dheen in lead roles, and Mohanlal's recent hit Thudarum only recently started to stream on the same platform. JioHotstar also offers the Malayalam web series, Kerala Crime Files 2.

What is Moonwalk all about?

The film's creators claim that it is based on true occurrences. It centres on a set of youths who watch Michael Jackson's music videos and see some of their seniors breakdancing, which inspires them to follow in their footsteps. The focus of Moonwalk then shifts to these guys' attempts to master this method. The boys learn this dance technique while attending school or doing small-scale jobs, overcoming all obstacles and criticism from their community and family. In order to compete in a all-Kerala event, they can also be seen putting a lot of effort into learning the dance moves. It also suggests that the story takes place in a small town in the eighties.

The film, which was directed by A K Vinod, was released in theatres by Lijo Jose Pellissery. Most of Moonwalk's main actors are newbies. Shersha Sherief, Manoj Moses, Anunath, Rishi Kainikkara, Sreekanth Murali, Siddharth B, Sujith Prabhakar, Nainita Maria, Meenakshi Raveendran, and Arjun Manilal are the key cast members of Moonwalk.
