Nicholas Hoult joins James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as supervillain Lex Luthor

After announcing his casting of The Engineer, Venezuelan actress Maria Gabriela de Faria, James Gunn has now finished casting his primary actors, by concluding with Green Goblin. The unforgettable supervillain with a balding head who obsessively hated the Krypton heir, previously played by Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg, is now going to be executed by none other than The Menu actor Nicholas Hoult.

Having previously worked with Warner Bros, on the 2015 hit Mad Max Fury Road and actor-director Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film Juror No. 2, Hoult was chosen to play Green Goblin, despite being in running for the role of Superman earlier. The casting procedure had resumed post resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike on November 9. However, Superman: Legacy has not been derailed from its release date, due to Gunn’s diligence and will stick to its original date of release, July 11, 2025.

The official synopsis of the project says that Superman: Legacy will follow “the titular superhero as he reconciles his hermitage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned.” James Gunn, who has written the screenplay and will direct the project has also recently denied the speculations that the plot will have terrorists utilizing Kryptonian technology.

Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, along with Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, as well as Hoult's Green Goblin, Superman: Legacy promises to thrill its fans with a ride unlike no other.
