A wellness retreat offering to reinvigorate the tired minds and bodies of nine frazzled city dwellers, unknown to each other, and a suspicious woman watching over them claiming to better their lives with her strange methods – too weird, isn’t it? That’s the premise of the new Amazon miniseries, Nine Perfect Strangers, starring Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman.
Based on author Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name, the show has a stellar cast at the helm of the project, including Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Manny Jacinto, Michael Shannon, Regina Hall, Samara Weaving and Luke Evans. How the story wraps around such powerhouse performers will definitely be a treat to watch.
Watch the trailer here:
The trailer begins on an odd cult-y note as we witness nine strangers arriving at a boutique health retreat for a 10-day package, that claims to transform them into new versions of themselves. Heading this project is Masha Martha, played by Kidman, who seems very mysterious from the beginning even with her bizarre approaches and sly smile.
An ominous background score and the increasingly psychotic behavior of the guests as they reveal secrets about each other and their scheming host, accompanied by glimpses into their tragic past, hints that something might be wrong with this retreat, and everything is not as bright as it seems.
Directed by Jonathan Levine, the series is a thriller co-written by David E Kelley and John Henry Butterworth. Nine Perfect Strangers will stream on Amazon Prime Video from August 20.
