Generally, Bigg Boss Kannada, hosted by Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep, starts sometime in October. Although Season 8 was to start in October 2020, it didn’t, owing to the pandemic and began only in February 2021. However, when Covid cases began to rise, the reality show had to be stopped abruptly in April, only to resume again in June. Eventually, Season 8 wound up only in August 2021, when Manju Pavagada was adjudged winner.

The buzz now is that Season 9 will kick off in August this year, exactly a year since Season 8, which will be perfect for Sudeep too, as he would have just finished the promotions and release of his next film, Vikrant Rona. What will be different, this time around, is that the show will not be simultaneously streamed on Voot Select, unlike last year.

Showrunner and business head of Colors Kannada, Parameshwar Gundkal had told the media earlier that Season 9 would take off as and when they were confident of having an uninterrupted run. According to reports, in the first or second week of August, there will be a mini season of Bigg Boss Kannada, which will be streamed on Voot Select and end in October. Shortly after the main Season 9 will start, which will only be on Colors Kannada. This will last for about 100-odd days.

Sudeep, who has been the host of the show since its beginning, will continue at the helm of affairs. Reports suggest that the showrunners are looking at having known celebrities on this season, considering that the last few years have also had commoners as contestants. It is being rumoured that cricketer Vinay Kumar, actors Naveen Krishna, Tennis Krishna, Namratha Gowda, Rekha Vedavyas, Dilip Raj and director Ravi Srivastava will be among the contestants of Season 9. Whether it will be for the mini season or full season is yet to be ascertained.
