Ewan McGregor's series on Obi-Wan Kenobi that will mark his return as the legendary Jedi has cast Star Wars fans as extras. The series will debut on Disney+ and (Disney+ Hotstar in India) next year.

Maya Erskine, who plays a brief role in the upcoming series recently spoke about this on Variety's Just for Variety podcast and even shared an anecdote of meeting a fan who had numerous Star Wars tattoos on his body.

"The extras were incredible on the set, and a lot of them were mega Star Wars fans. One guy, he was so nice and he lifted up his sleeves and had Star Wars tattoos over his whole body. And they build droids. There are lot of Star Wars fans that build droids, and then the production companies will rent [them] from the fans," said Erskine.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Besides McGregor and Erskine, the show also stars Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. Variety writes that Hayden Christensen will return in the role of Darth Vader.

Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, McGregor and series writer Joby Harold have executive produced the series. Deborah Chow, who has previously helmed two episodes of The Mandolorian, is the director.
