Since the announcement of the official nominations in 23 major categories, the anticipation for the Oscar Awards 2024 has reached its peak. Despite the best talents being nominated for the upcoming awards, there were some favourites who were left out during Tuesday's announcement. Box office blockbuster and highly acclaimed film Barbie was snubbed in two major categories, namely ‘Best Director’ for Greta Gerwig and ‘Best Actress’ for Margot Robbie.
Interestingly, Ryan Gosling bagged the nomination for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for Barbie. However, the actor condemned the snubbing and expressed his dismay. He said, “There is no Ken without Barbie.” Here’s more about his reaction to his nomination for the 96th Academy Awards, along with his views on the co-actor's major miss on the honours taking place on March 10.
Ryan Gosling, who played the supporting character of Ken in the 2023 blockbuster Barbie, is not happy after the Academy Awards revealed their nominations for this year on January 23. Despite the movie bagging 8 nominations in different categories like Best Film, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling, and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera, netizens and movie stars were taken aback after there were no mentions of director Greta Gerwig and lead actress Margot Robbie on the nomination list.
The Notebook actor, who is vying for the glitzy honour and is competing fiercely with other talented actors like Oppenheimer’s Robert Downey Jr, Poor Thing’s Mark Ruffalo, Killers of the Flower Moon’s Robert De Niro, and American Fiction’s Sterling K Brown, acknowledged the glorious nomination but also addressed the turnoff moment for his costar.

Expressing his gratitude and excitement over the big achievement, Gosling said in a statement, “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it's for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”
Ryan Gosling also empowered his female colleagues and lauded their talent and grit by crediting Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in the history-making film. He added, “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film.”
However, despite the major disappointments and turndowns, one thing that gives netizens some solace is that the power-packed duo of Gerwig and Robbie are still in the Oscar race, as the former, along with her husband Noah, have been nominated for “Best Adapted Screenplay,” while the latter, who co-produced Barbie, is vying for the Best Film category.
