This year’s Academy Awards featured a lot of firsts, and not all of them were the good kind. Will Smith won his first Academy Award for King Richard, and also made headlines for being involved in a heated moment with Chris Rock, where the former slapped Chris in the face. A lot of celebrities weighed in on this, and Kangana Ranaut was one of them.

Taking to Instagram, the actress expressed nothing but support for Will’s actions. Sharing a photograph of the moment on her IG story, the actress captioned it, “If some idiot used my mom or sister's illness to make bunch of fools laugh I would slap him like @willsmith did...bad ass move..hope he comes to my #lockup”.

The altercation between Will and Chris took place when the latter made a joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, likening her to ‘GI Jane’ because of her shaved head. Jada suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune condition which results in hair loss. The joke was not well received by the couple, and Will made his way onto stage, where Chris was presenting the award for Best Documentary, and slapped the latter across his face. Although the audience at first took the moment to be scripted, Will’s proclamation that Chris should keep Jada’s name ‘out of his mouth’, quickly made the audience realise that it was not a bit.

Other celebrities such as Conan O’Brien, Trevor Noah and more also reacted to the moment, and the Academy issued a statement saying that it does not ‘condone violence’. Will, during his acceptance speech, apologised to the Academy for his actions.
