The whole of India is currently in the midst of soaking in the momentous Oscar win as the winners continue to attract high praise from all corners. From prime minister Narendra Modi to the biggest names of the film fraternity, such as Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, Yash, etc. have been swept up by the Oscar wins with 'Naatu Naatu', 'RRR' and 'The Elephant Whisperers' becoming the latest and most trending buzzwords on social media.
But the impact doesn't end there as the rare feat gets a special mention at the most recent Rajya Sabha proceedings with Jaya Bachchan, Piyush Goyal and several other members of parliament lauding the efforts of the Academy Award winners and exuding pride over the achievement.
In fact, the Rajya Sabha proceedings began on Tuesday, March 14th, on the pleasant 'Oscars' note with chairman Jagdeep Dhankar welcoming the house with an emphatic announcement. "Honorable members, the 95th Academy Award function in Los Angeles was a moment of glory for us," said the chairman in his opening statement before going on to mention that the films The Elephant Whisperers and RRR have fetched two Oscar victories for the country. He would draw huge applause from the members in front, who were clearly in the mood to be part of the celebrations.
Actor and politician Jaya Bachchan was among the many members of the house who displayed joy and pleasure over the hugely impressive wins.
"I'm so happy and so glad that we are discussing the most important ambassadors of the country - and they are the film folks. Does not matter whether they are from North, East, South, West - they are Indians. I stand here with pride and dignity for my film fraternity who have represented this country a number of times and won a number of awards. Starting from Mr. Satyajit Ray. I know Mr. Rajamouli very well. The writer of RRR [K.V. Vijayendra Prasad], he is not only the scriptwriter, he is also the story writer and is a member of this house. It's a great honour and there many, many such people from the creative world who have been nominated here in this house," said Jaya Bachchan.
Cabinet minister and the leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal, highlighted that the documentary The Elephant Whisperers was made by two women of eminence (director Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga). "It's a great mark of recognition for India's women that The Elephant Whisperers won," he said, before going to underline the fact that the docu. picture supports sustainability and co-existence.
