Jim Sarbh was the Editor’s Choice for Best Actor Male in a series at the recently held OTTplay Awards 2023. He took the trophy home for his performance of Dr. Homi Bhabha on the show Rocket Boys. Jim took the award home for the second season of the series, Rocket Boys 2.

Here's all you need to know about Jim and Rocket Boys 2…

About the winner

Abhay Pannu’s Rocket Boys, backed by Nikkhil Advani, is the story of two of India’s most loved scientists – Dr. Homi Bhabha and Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. While Jim played the former, Ishwak Singh was seen in the role of Dr. Sarabhai. The story is set from 1940-1960s, which is when they were at the peak of their career and were also considered a threat to other scientists. While season 1 ended on a devastating note, season 2 provided a sense of joy through an unusual reunion between the two geniuses.

Accolades

Ever since it was announced, Rocket Boys was among the most-awaited series on the web. The first season got more people excited for the sequel and the second season was received with just as much love. Jim, who played Dr. Bhabha, was especially the highlight of the show. The impact is such that his name has been nominated for the upcoming Emmy Awards. While we wait to know if he has actually won the award, OTTplay recognized the talent and has now awarded him with Best Actor Male in a series – Editor’s Choice.

Know Jim Sarbh a little better

Starting his career by playing the antagonist in Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja, Jim Sarbh has come a long way. Neerja was followed by A Death In The Gunj. With that, Jim cemented his image as a quality actor (often confused as one that works best only in the art cinema). Jim broke the stereotype by being seen in impactful roles in Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone-Shahid Kapoor’s Padmaavat and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju.

Jim first made his mark on OTT through Made In Heaven, which released in 2019. Ever since, he created a perfect balance of work between OTT and films. After working in the Zee5 release Taish in 2020, Jim found Rocket Boys, where he played the leading face. Soon, Jim collaborated with SLB again, this time for Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actor was last seen in Rani Mukerji’s Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.

A heartfelt gratitude, straight from the winner's heart

"It was always supposed to be a limited series, with two seasons. The same team, more or less, worked on it through. So, the same DOP, the same music composer, the same ADs, the same costume, the same DOP and there's something very wonderful about making so much together as a team. I don't know if it's possible to have that feeling any other way. Everyone is aligned. Everybody is working together. Everyone is extremely talented and more than that, everyone seems to understand what we're trying to create. It's different if somebody drops in for an episode or two. First, it's one director, one DOP, one cinematographer that pushes you all the way to the end. That was my favourite part about the entire process. It was getting to work with the same people who are all aligned in this creative way that can eventually result in me standing up here. So, yeah," Jim said while collecting his award.

Upcoming films/web series/project

Jim is yet to announce his next project. The two series he was a part of – Rocket Boys as well as Four More Shots Please (last season) have come to an end. Whether Jim is already working on something, we will know soon.
