GEHRAIYAAN – Shakun Batra’s latest directorial venture Gehraiyaan is out on Amazon Prime Video.  A gorgeous Deepika Padukone is reason enough to delve deep into this world of messy relationships and secret lives. The film focuses on how kids can grow up into scarred adults because of unaddressed childhood traumas. Alisha (Deepika Padukone) is a yoga instructor who is in a steady relationship with Karan (Dhairya Karwa) who has recently left his high paying advertising job to write a book. The cracks are already visible and with the prospect of meeting her cousin Tia and her fiancé Zain comes up nothing quite prepares her for the emotional rollercoaster ride.

INVENTING ANNA – This one will surely get you excited. After all this drama mini-series has been created by Shonda Rhimes who is the mastermind behind shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. The series is based on the article “How Anna Delvey tricked New York’s rich party people” written by Jessica Pressler. It details how a fake German heiress named Anna Delvey conned NY city’s elite of 1000s of dollars. It stars Julia Garner as Anna Delvey who is staggeringly good . Just as solid is Anna Chlumsky who plays the journalist and is modelled on Jessika Pressler. Right from the very beginning of the first episode and then the start of each subsequent episode creatively placed text reminds the audience that “this whole story is completely true except for the parts that are totally made up.”It instantly sets up the stage that while some of this is based on fact portions could be entirely fictional. This is an important think to keep in mind while we navigate the journey. There is mystery built into this scandalous drama and at the centre is always the question who is Anna Delvy? It’s on Netflix.

CODA- Apple received its first best-picture nomination with this drama, which also made history as supporting actor nominee Troy Kotsur became only the second deaf actor ever nominated. (His “CODA" co-star Marlee Matlin was the first.) It was also nominated for best-adapted screenplay. While Jones gives a fantastic performance, Troy Kotsur, who plays Ruby’s father Frank, is the standout. He earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, making history as the first male deaf actor to be nominated for an Academy Award. He’s the second deaf actor to be Oscar-nominated following Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God), who stars opposite him in CODA as Ruby’s mother Jackie. As a child of deaf adults, Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family’s fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her life of music and her fear of abandoning her parents. It’s a very emotional story and hits in a few different levels . Emilia jones as Ruby absolutely sells the performance . She is hy, loving, talented and frustrated because she is the only one in her family that can hear so the entire burden of the hearing world falls in her . Uplifting and inspiring and the whole cast makes it work. Nominated for Best adapted screenplay , best picture, best-supporting actor watch it on Appletv+.
