And we are back being stuck at home with this new strain once again upending all grand plans we had for the New Year. However thanks to OTT we still can rely on an unending supply of entertainment and distractions. Here’s a curated list you could choose from :

  • BINISUTOY – One of my favorite Bangla films of 2021 Atanu Ghosh’s Binisutoy is now streaming on Zee5. Srabani Baruah and Kajal Sarkar are two strangers who meet at the audition of a reality game show. The word “binisutoy” literally means ‘without strings attached’. Soon what seems like a normal predictable narrative then has a major twist in store which leads to a sensitive and immersive exploration of the meaning of life and a journey of self discovery.. Jaya Ehsan and Ritwick Chakraborty are sublime together .
  • THE TENDER BAR - Directed by George Clooney, and starring  Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, Daniel Ranieri, Lily Rabe, and Christopher Lloyd, The Tender Bar is a coming-of-age drama, set in 1970s. Adapted from the memoir of the same name by J. R. Moehringer, The Tender Bar tells the story of a young boy who moves into his grandfather's house and bonds with his uncle who is a bartender and a few of the interesting patrons at the bar. Tye Sheridan plays the author, who in the absence of his father, starts to look to his uncle Charlie (Affleck) to fill that void. Can easily be called George Cloony’s best directorial venture so far. Ben Afflick is phenominal . The relationship between the nephew and uncle is well develped and hearwarming. Reasons enough to watch it on Amazon Prime Video.
  • CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI – Ayushman Khurrana is on home turf as Chandigarh ka gabru Punjabi munda. Protein shakes and dumb bells are his life till a Zumba instructor first enters his gym and then his heart. Maanvi (Vaani Kapoor) is a statuesque beauty and she turns heads. Weightlifter Manu finds himself being drawn towards her but Maanvi has a past which she fears Manu will not be able to handle. Abhishek Kapoor’s hold as a storyteller rarely slips through Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's 117-min runtime, which is why it remains wholesome and enjoyable. Watch it on Netflix.
  • HUMBLE POLITICIAN NOGRAJ – Streaming now on Voot Select is Danish sait’s 10 part series Humble Politician Nograj S1 . Based on actor- creator Danish Sait’s hilarious character Nograj which we have heard on radio, seen in the 2018 Kannada comedy by the same name this latest series has been directed by Saad Khan and written by them both.  writing and funny dialogues ensure that the show is highly enjoyable and even when some jokes fall flat or the narrative appears stretched. The perfromances by Danish Sait, Prakash Belawadi, Geetanjali Kulkarni and Varun Thakur keep the proceedings buoyant. We follow the drama surrounding the elections for the CM of Karnataka. Nograj of the One Big Party attempts to forge an alliance with the Family Run Party to fight the Most Secular Party. This biting satire on Indian politics can be seen on Voot Select.
  • PUSHPA: The rise  - Pushpa: The Rise is an action thriller with Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in the lead. Directed by Sukumar, the film shows the rise of an young man, Pushpa Raj (Arjun) from a small-time red sandalwood smuggler to the top of the game. It boasts of an enviable cast, brilliant action sequences, cinematography and peppy songs. The raw, rustic tone of the story adds to its charm along with the atmospherics where much of the story takes place in the forst. Watch it on Amazon prime video.
