The first few teasers from Anoop Menon’s directorial Padma revealed an urban, plastique setting, revealing glimpses in the life of an affluent family. However, the latest track Kanalkaattil from the movie reveals a marked change and also gives us a glimpse into the lives of its lead characters.
While it’s not clear whether the incidents in the song’s visuals happens before or after the content that was showcased in the teasers, it is set against a rustic backdrop where Padma, essayed by Surabhi Lakshmi, seems to be the one taking the responsibility of working while Anoop’s character is seen drinking alcohol with his friends.
The song’s video also cuts between the rustic scenes as well as their lives as a wealthy couple going through a crisis. Rendered by Vijay Yesudas, the melodious track has lyrics written by Anoop Menon and is composed by Ninoy Varghese.
The film revolves around Surabhi’s character Padma, who hails from a rural background, and has to adapt to the affluent lifestyle after her wedding with Anoop Menon’s character. Padma, which also has Mala Parvathi and Shankar Ramakrishnan, is Anoop’s second directorial effort. His debut film King Fish, which stars himself, Durga Krishna and Ranjith in pivotal roles, is yet to release.
Meanwhile, Anoop Menon’s latest movie 21 Grams, which is an investigative thriller, released in theatres last month to generally positive reviews and was deemed a sleeper hit. The actor, who was also part of Kannan Thamarakullam’s Vidhi, also teamed up with the filmmaker for the upcoming political thriller Varaal, which Anoop has also scripted.
Varaal, which has an ensemble cast featuring Renji Panicker, Sunny Wayne, Prakash Raj, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Suresh Krishna and Honey Rose, is expected to be a theatrical release. The film deals with several relevant socio-political issues. Anoop is also part of Vinayan’s Pathonpathaam Noottandu, in which he plays the Maharaja of Travancore.
