In response to claims that the new boycott trend is to blame for the decline in Bollywood movie box office revenue, Pankaj Tripathi has spoken out against it. Recently, a number of high-budget movies, like Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan as well as Raksha Bandhan featuring Akshay Kumar, underperformed at the theatres, giving the industry a quite unexpected blow.

Pankaj highlighted the reasons behind movies failing in the post-pandemic period in an interview with Siddharth Kanan. He explained, “Self-assessment is needed about what we are making and how we are making it that’s necessary and that’s what is lacking.”

While discussing the boycott wave, Pankaj stated, “If a film is bad, it doesn’t work, and doesn’t get boycotted. People don’t go to the cinema halls. That’s also a boycott then, isn’t it? There is no social media campaign then, and no hashtag but the film still doesn’t work. But yes self-assessment is needed.”

Pankaj also addressed his film 83's poor box office performance, saying,, “Nahin nahin, afsos nahin hota, maine paise thodi lagaya hai film mein (No, no, I'm not unhappy, I haven't invested anything in the picture).” He continued by saying that he had only contributed his skills up to that point since, in his opinion, he had played his part quite honestly.

Despite receiving favourable reviews, the Omicron outbreak in December had a negative impact on the box office performance of 83, featuring Ranveer Singh in the major role.

Meanwhile, in the June movie Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, Pankaj made his most recent appearance. Sayani Gupta and Neeraj Kabi are also featured in the Srijit Mukherji-directed film. Additionally, he recently appeared in the Disney Hotstar series Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach.

He will shortly appear in Oh My God 2 starring Akshay Kumar and Yami Gautam; Amit Rai will direct the film. It is a sequel to the film OMG – Oh My God! from 2012.
