Over the past couple of years, Karan Johar has produced several patriotic films like Raazi, Kesari, Gunjan Saxena and the most recent movie, SherShaah. The producer had recently announced a project on the untold story of C Sankaran Nair who fought the legendary courtroom battle against the British to uncover the truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. And now, the latest update is that Dharma Productions is also developing a script on the life of Usha Mehta, a Gandhian and a freedom fighter.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, a source revealed that Usha Mehta ran an underground pirate radio which is known as the Congress Radio during the Quit India Movement and gave a tough time to the British government. After gaining Independence, she was honoured with Padma Vibhushan which is the second highest civilian award of India. He further added that the creative team at Dharma productions has been working on this script on the brave and heroic story of this unsung hero for a while now. The source also mentioned that the film will be helmed by Kannan Iyer who will pen the script with Darab Farooqui.

The script is based on the play, Khar Khar which is written by Amatya Goradia and Pritesh Sodha which won the Best Script and Best Director Award at IPTA’s Inter-collegiate drama competition. The source further added, “This one is in the space of Raazi, with ample thrills and drama, and a top A-list actress is expected to come on board to play the titular role,” also confirming that the casting and pre-production are currently underway.

Currently Karan Johar is caught up in Delhi, all set to start the shoot for his directorial Rocky Aur Ram Ki Prem Kahani. The film is expected to be a romantic comedy that spans generations with a formidable ensemble starring superstars like Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan in the pivotal roles. Further details of the movie have been kept under wraps for now.
