A little while ago, KRG Studios announced that its first collaboration with The Viral Fever, the Kannada film Powder is being postponed. Scheduled to be in theatres on July 12, the film will now be an Independence release. This development gives credence to the rumours that Shivarajkumar’s Bhairathi Ranagal, which had booked the August 15 date earlier, is being pushed ahead to late October. KRG Studios would not want a box office clash with Shivarajkumar.
In a statement released by the makers, explaining the reason behind the postponement, they said, “The decision to move the date was made after multiple meetings with post production teams. The CGI in the film which majorly constitutes the last twenty minutes of the film requires more time and freedom to achieve the finesse. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this adjustment but we assure a rollicking time in the theatres with this film.”
Although, the KRG-TVF association is what is often highlighted about Powder, Kannada audiences are excited about the film because it is director Janardhan Chikkanna’s next. Janardhan is the man behind the critically-acclaimed cyber crime thriller, Gultoo, which introduced Naveen Shankar as a leading man in Kannada cinema.
Powder, meanwhile, has an impressive star cast, including Diganth, Anirudh Acharya, Bharath GB, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Rangayana Raghu, Sharmiela Mandre, Ravishankar Gowda, Sunder Veena, Dhanya Ramkumar and Nagabhushana, among others. Although Powder also has thriller elements, it is a light-hearted entertainer. When the initial release date was announced, the makers had stated that the film is about a bunch of down-on-their-luck small -town youngsters with big ambitions, whose attempts to get rich quick, runs into obstacles galore, as they make enemies and frenemies along the way.
Incidentally, Bhairathi Ranagal is not the only film that is vacating the Independence Day slot. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 has also been pushed ahead.
