Director Alphonse Puthren’s Gold, his first movie in seven years since the blockbuster Premam, has completed its censoring formalities and received a clean U rating. This comes as a huge relief for the makers as well as the audience, with the team finally confirming that the movie, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara, will now hit theatres on December 1.
Last week, the movie’s co-producer Listin Stephen had announced the tentative release date, but also expressed caution, saying that he hopes there won’t be any more “twists” in the tale, with the film’s release date already being postponed once and Alphonse decided to reshoot a few portions.
The movie, which is touted to be a dark comedy, has a host of actors including Roshan Mathew, Krishna Shankar, Deepti Sati, Vinay Forrt, Jagadish, Baburaj, Chemban Vinod, Ajmal Ameer, Shabareesh Varma, Saiju Kurup, Lalu Alex, Sudheesh, Prem Kumar and Jaffer Idukki.
Just before the pandemic, Alphonse was set to work on another project titled Paattu, which had Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara as part of the lead. The filmmaker had even learnt music for the movie, which was put on hold due to the lockdowns.
It was Prithviraj, who then approached the filmmaker with an offer to do a project together. In an interview earlier this year, the actor said that he had always wanted to work with Alphonse and even after Gold, he wants to do more movies with the Neram filmmaker.
In fact, even when the director failed to submit the final copy before the initial scheduled date of release – in September 2022 – it was Prithviraj, who is also one of the co-producers of the movie, who had reportedly said to give the director as much time as possible to ensure that he comes out with a final product that he is fully satisfied with.
Gold marks the third release this year by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, after Jana Gana Mana and Kaduva.
