Having recently completed 12 telefilms, one feature film and three shorts in Bangladesh, actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila was busy shooting in Dhaka for the past three months. Now, she is back to Kolkata to make her Tollywood debut in Raajhorshee De’s Maya, a dark film loosely based on William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
On being enquired about the project, Mithila remained tight-lipped and refused to give any details about her upcoming film. However, when asked whether she would want to be a part of Srijit Mukherjee’s productions, she explained that with right script and character, she would definitely be interested to work with her husband. However, personally she doesn't wish to get in that space knowing how much Srijit scolds his actors.
In a chat with Calcutta Times, director Raajhorshee De expressed happiness on having Mithila on board, and revealed some tidbits about her new movie. She mentioned how while writing the character of Maya, she had the actress in mind and it will be an adapted version of Lady Macbeth from William Shakespeare's play.
Having seen Mithila’s previous work, she had asked Srijit whether she could approach her for the role. On getting the green signal, she talked with Mithila and she loved the script, agreeing to be a part of the project. “We’ll see her in three age groups in Maya and it’s a tough character,” Raajhorshee added. She also cleared the air regarding Mithila replacing Arpita, saying that no such thing has happened, and it is just a rumor.
Apart from Mithila, the movie has also enlisted other big names from the Bengali film industry including Gaurav Chakrabarty, Tanusree Chakraborty, Gourab Chatterjee, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Koneenica Banerjee, Devlina Kumar, Ronita Das, and Sudiptaa Chakraborty.
With the look test already done, the actors are ready to begin filming as the movie goes on floors from July 12. The shooting locations being chosen are in and around Kolkata and its suburbs.
