Every performer will tell you that to truly commit to a part is the only way to succeed in it. When the role of Satya in I Love You came her way, Rakul Preet Singh knew it wouldn't be easy. Filming the romantic thriller, which also starred Pavail Gulati and Akshay Oberoi, proved more challenging than she had anticipated. She calls it the toughest film she's worked on.
JioCinema's offering from director Nikhil Mahajan examines the destructive potential of love gone mad. According to Rakul, the director planned to film the intense scenes over the course of 15 consecutive days in December. The strain of the shoot became apparent quickly.
The actor told Midday that three days into filming, she still couldn't get to sleep. Rakul had 14-hour days when she had to go to bed at midnight and get up at dawn, but she was constantly awake and exhausted. The actor tried using melatonin tablets to calm down, but they had no effect. Then she got sick to her stomach and could only keep khichdi down. Rakul finally decided to talk to her doctor and dietitian after suffering through this for almost 10 days. The latter informed her that she was experiencing a physical manifestation of the distressing feelings she had been having as Satya.
Following the completion of her work, Rakul followed the advice of his dietician and took a break. Her doctor advised her to cut ties before they exacerbated her health problems. For three days, the actor vacationed at a resort. Her body and mind both required a change of scenery and a break in routine. This incident heightened her awareness of the toll that taking on several jobs might have. After that, Rakul began deliberately entering and exiting her persona.
She acknowledges that the role is different from the girl next door characters she has previously played. She claims she made the decision to highlight her expertise in intricate areas on purpose. When Rakul first started working on Yaariyan [2014], she was a young woman who knew nothing about the filmmaking process. The more one develops, the clearer their goals become. With each film she makes, she hopes to better herself.
