Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is one of the most talked-about projects. Now, a new report mentioned that Priyanka Chopra was the first choice to play Surpanakha in Ranbir Kapoor's film.

Ramayana is one of the most-awaited projects of Nitesh Tiwari. The film stars an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in the lead roles. Scheduled to be released in two parts in 2026 and 2027, respectively, the film has been garnering a lot of attention ever since it was announced. Amid this, a recent report claimed that Priyanka Chopra was the first choice to play Surpanakha, the sister of Yash's Ravana in Ramayana.
As per the Times of India, Priyanka Chopra was initially approached for the role of Surpanakha, the sister of Ravan, played by Yash. However, due to PeeCee's international commitments, the role ultimately went to Rakul Preet Singh.
The source informed the portal, “Surpanakha is one of the main reasons the Ramayan took place. The makers were keen on having Priyanka Chopra for the same role. But things didn't work out owing to her packed schedule with international projects. That’s when Rakul came on board. She fitted the role perfectly and brought intensity and a fresh take to the character.”

Meanwhile, Rakul Preet has reportedly undergone a look test for the Surpanakha role. She is excited about the epic trilogy highlighting the mythological tale. However, the actress is yet to confirm her presence in the project.
In Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen as Lord Ram while Sai Pallavi will play Sita. KGF star Yash will play Raavana, and Kunal Kapoor will play Lord Indra. Apart from them, Kajal Aggarwal will reportedly play Raavan's wife, Mandodari, and Sunny Deol and Lara Dutta will reportedly play the roles of Lord Hanuman and Kaikeyi, respectively.
