Ranbir Kapoor: No director saw me in films like this, grateful to Karan Malhotra for Shamshera

Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming movie, Shamshera, has been grabbing the headlines for all the right reasons. The movie’s makers released its official trailer earlier today and now Ranbir Kapoor has opened up about playing a character with a very different look in the period action drama. 

Talking at the trailer release event, Ranbir said, “You know my comfort zone and the things that I was doing. And after 15 years in the industry as an actor, I think you have to challenge yourself and push your boundaries. And to be honest no director saw me in films like this. They kept offering me coming-of-age or romantic movies , so I jumped onto the offer because the film has the potential to speak to a larger audience who loves going to the cinema and loves the movie experience.”

Directed by Karan Malhotra, who has previously helmed Agneepath and Brothers, Shamshera is a period action movie set in the 1800’s. The movie has Ranbir playing dual roles, that of a father and son. 

The movie’s trailer hints at a visual spectacle that will offer the viewers an experience unlike many others. The trailer also gives us a look at the main antagonist essayed by Sanjay Dutt, who is an Indian officer working for the British, who is tasked with taking out the dacoit played by Ranbir.

Apart from Ranbir and Dutt, the movie also stars Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, and Ronit Roy in important roles. The movie has music composed by Mithoon while Anay Goswamy and Shivkumar V. Panicker handled the movie’s cinematography and editing respectively.

Backed by Yash Raj Films, the movie is set to be release in IMAX in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on July 22.
