Raveena Tandon's old interview about her failed engagement with Akshay Kumar resurfaces

Thanks to their on-screen chemistry, Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon have been favourites of fans for decades. In addition, the two actors dated one other for close to a decade before going on a brief engagement in the middle of the 1990s. Recently, the two celebrities shared the stage together decades later for an awards event, and it goes without saying that fans were surprised. 

Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar both attended the HT India's Most Stylish 2023 as guests a few days ago. Not just this but Raveena also gave Akshay Kumar an award. Pictures and videos of the two celebrities conversing on stage and in the audience thereafter went viral as well. 

For people who don't know, these both actors reportedly got engaged in 1995 after dating for a few years. Their engagement did not, however, end in a wedding. Raveena discussed her failed engagement and how Akshay wanted her to give up her career in an old video.

On her talk show Rendevouz with Simi Garewal, Raveena said that she had taken a two-year vacation from performing in order to lead a simple life after getting married. “It was a voluntary decision. I was engaged to somebody I knew. This is what I wanted, to lead a very normal life. I quit in advance before marriage because we did think that when there will be last day of my shoot, we will go ahead and get married," she said in an old video.

She also admitted that the chance to leave the industry was once again on the table when she made the decision to pick up her career, but this time, she declined it. She continued, “Once I re-started my career, he again said that leave it and we will go ahead with the wedding. But, then I told him that once I chose you over my career, but now I will choose my career over you."

When the host questioned her about the speculations that she and Akshay were already married at the time of the aforementioned 1995 event, Raveena emphasised that it was merely a big engagement ceremony. “No. (It) was a very, very elaborate engagement ceremony with a pandit doing the pujas and everything, with his whole family flying down from Delhi as well. My family flying down from Delhi as well. One of the elders had put a red dupatta on my head. I think that was mistaken to be a wedding which was not," she said.
