Rebel update - Trailer of GV Prakash Kumar-starrer political drama to be out on THIS date

The trailer of composer-turned-actor GV Prakash Kumar’s upcoming film Rebel will be out tomorrow on March 11. The actor took to his social media handles to unveil the trailer release date with a new poster. The film, which is awaiting a release on March 22, is going to be a period film that centres around student politics in Kerala.  

What is Rebel all about?

The film, which has been largely shot in Kerala, is touted to be an action-packed political drama, which is inspired by a real-life incident. Earlier, actor GV Prakash shared a glimpse from the film where he is seen as a feisty college student. The actor plays a left-wing student leader in the film, supporting Tamil students in Kerala who are forced to do manual labour. The film appears to be set in the early 1970s or 1960s. GV Prakash's character fights for the rights of the Tamil students who are discriminated against and ill-treated on the college premises.  

Director Nikesh RS about Rebel

 Helmed by Nikesh RS, Rebel is based on the Tamil people’s fight against oppression. The director recently said that the film is made for Tamilians and will narrate an important story from history. “I was brought up in Munnar, Kerala; Rebel is a period film that will showcase the lives of the people in that town. The film revolves around students who studied there and how they were affected by the politics unfolding at the institution,” Nikesh revealed in an earlier interview. He added that the story of Rebel is important and one that needs to be told, as it will be relevant for years to come. Premalu star Mamitha Baiju makes her Kollywood debut in Rebel.

Premalu star Mamitha Baiju is making her Tamil film debut with Rebel, in which she plays the female lead. Interestingly, the actress was going to make her Tamil debut with Bala’s Vanangaan, however, she opted out of the film later.  

Apart from the lead cast, Rebel also has a mix of Malayalam and Tamil actors, including Venkitesh VP, Shalu Rahim, Karunas, Adhithya Baskar, Kalloori Vinoth and Subramaniya Siva. GV Prakash Kumar has also scored the music for the film.
