On Friday, June 23, Kannada filmmaker Pawan Kumar is presenting his film, Dhoomam, to audiences. The Hombale Films production has Fahadh Faasil in the lead and has been made as a Malayalam original, with dubbed versions in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi as well. This week, though, only the Malayalam and Kannada versions will be in theatres. In fact, at one point it was thought that even the Kannada version could be delayed, but that would have been unthinkable for the makers, both Hombale and Pawan, since they hail from Karnataka.

Late last evening, they revealed that the Kannada version would also get a grand release on June 23, with as many as 150 screens (not shows), dedicated to it. Advance booking for the film opened today in Karnataka. In Kerala, Dhoomam is expected to open in about 300 screens.

Dhoomam is based on a script that Pawan had pitched as a Kannada film called C10H14N2 more than a decade ago, but was never able to get on floors, because he could not convince actors or producers to be a part of it. It was only when he began discussions with Hombale Films to do a film with the late Puneeth Rajkumar, that they facilitated a script reading with Fahadh and that is how Dhoomam came to be. The film, which Pawan says is a thriller, has a run-time of just under two and a half hours at 2 hours and 24 minutes only.

The film, which has music by Pawan’s favourite Poornachandra Tejaswi and cinematography by Preetha Jayaram, also stars Roshan Mathew, Anu Mohan, Aparna Balamurali, Achyuth Kumar, Vineeth Kumar, among others, in pivotal roles. It has been censored U/A without cuts.
