Perfection has a name - it’s Henry Cavill! The Hollywood star has made waves in movies and shows over the last couple of years, owing to some stellar roles that he has bagged. Ditching the cowlick, he dazzled audiences by portraying Superman in DCEU movies.
The birthday boy, who turns 38 today, has had his fair share of rejection too. He lost two important roles to Robert Pattinson - the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and Edward Cullen in Twilight! But that is what makes Cavill wonderful - he’s freely spoken about his failures in the showbiz. The actor was able to finally find his footing, propelling to fame due to a few roles that are still fresh in the memory of the audience.
OTTPlay is celebrating the actor’s birthday by taking a trip down the memory lane and recalling five of the actor’s best performances!
Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes - Netflix
Cavill had to fill big shoes as Sherlock in Enola Holmes. He was constantly compared to Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr, but the actor put a new spin on Sherlock - his version of the detective was calm, emotional but also an authoritarian in his family who asks Enola to be ‘ladylike’ by forgetting her quest to find their mother. The film explored Sherlock as an older brother for the first time and Cavill did an incredible job.
Theseus in Immortals - Amazon Prime Video
One of Cavill’s earliest roles is that of Theseus in Immortals. The film is a loose adaptation of the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and Cavill’s performance was well-received as an action hero. Over time, the film has become a cult hit and Cavill has emerged as an underrated actor in the role of Theseus.
Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E - Netflix
Professional thief-turned-CIA agent, Napoleon Solo is a flawed character played by Cavill. The actor, who adopts a suave accent and is suited up, does a tremendous job in this action flick and is a testament to his range as an actor. Though the film was criticised for its weak plot, Cavill’s performance was appreciated.
Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher - Netflix
The role of Geralt of Rivia was adopted by Cavill like a second skin. His performance in The Witcher will almost make the audience feel like the role was tailor-made for him. He plays the role of Geralt, a magically enhanced monster hunter who is seen slaying a lot of enemies.
Charles Brandon (Duke of Suffolk) in The Tudors - SonyLIV
There is nothing better than watching Cavill act like royalty. This role that propelled him to fame portrayed Cavill as Charles Brandon, King Henry VIII’s best friend. He plays a significant part in the series and could easily pass off as actually royalty.
