Jim Sarbh says he was destined to play Dr. Bhabha.

In an interview with GQ India, Jim Sarbh revealed three reasons why he was destined to play Dr. Homi Bhabha. The first, of course, is the fact that he is a Parsi like Dr. Bhabha. Jim then mentioned that he actually owns a desk used by Dr. Bhabha. Jim purchased the desk at an auction way before the role happened. The third reason, Jim said, was that Freddie Mercury was taken (by Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody).

How Dr. Bhabha-Dr. Sarabhai met and their history

In real life, Dr. Bhabha joined the Cosmic Ray Research Unit at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, as a professor back in 1942. Dr. Sarabhai was already in IISc in the same institute since 1940. Since their interests were at par, the two became friends and then collaborated professionally. The two helped build the first rocket launching station in Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Bhabha later became the founder-director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Dr. Sarabhai was the reason for the establishment of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization). He also played a key role in setting up IIM in Ahmedabad. Whether we get to see every aspect covered in the series is something time will tell.
