Rohit Shetty joins Reliance Entertainment to produce a biopic on Mumbai's celebrated cop, Rakesh Maria

Rohit Shetty is set to add another feather to his cap as the ace filmmaker is about to make another cop film. He joined hands with Reliance Entertainment to produce a biopic on the former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, Rakesh Maria. 

Rohit will mentor the movie, which will be based on the experiences and accomplishments of the most revered cop's career. 

Speaking about the upcoming project, Rohit mentioned that Rakesh Maria started terror among the criminals. He further informs in the statement that the celebrated police officer's journey is incredible and spans all the way from the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, the underworld menace, to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. "Feel truly honored to be bringing this real-life super cop’s brave & fearless journey to the screen!!" the filmmaker added in the press note. 

Adding to the statement, Maria mentioned that he is excited to relive his journey, especially when it's being made by a brilliant director like Rohit Shetty. He further added that it's nostalgic for him but other than that it's a much more valuable opportunity to place before the people the extraordinary work of the Mumbai Police when facing tough challenges and working against all odds.

Shetty, one of the most loved filmmakers in the Bollywood, shared the an image on Instagram that features him with Maria and captioned it, " From solving the 93 Mumbai blast case, fearlessly facing the mumbai underworld during the late 90s to interrogating the lone surviving terrorist, Ajmal Kasab & standing strong for his city during the 26/11 attacks... Rakesh Maria has been a name synonymous with courage and valour! Feel honoured to be bringing this real life supercop's journey to screen!!! (Sic)."

Meanwhile, the director-producer is currently busy working on his highly anticipated web series titled Indian Police Force which stars Sidharth Malhotra, Vivek Oberoi and Shilpa Shetty in lead roles.
