On his show India's Got Latent, comedian Samay Raina is taking flak over a comment made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia about having "sex with parents." While in Canada on his Samay Raina Unfiltered tour, the comedian made a roundabout reference to the incident's aftermath. Following the "kaand" (scandal), he shared a preview of his post-scandal chat with comedian Tanmay Bhat with the audience.
Raina played to an intimate crowd at Vancouver's Massey Theatre. Attendee and film journalist Faridoon Shahryar recounted events from the evening. A standing ovation greeted him on stage, he said, and he divulged his discussion with Bhat afterward.
Raina enquired, "Maine Tanmay Bhat bhai se baat kiya, maine kaha Tanmay bhai jab aisa kuch hota hai kaand toh aisa hota hai ki bhook nahi lagti? Toh unhone kaha, Haan, bhook nahi lagti aise mein. Maine kaha aap kaise mote ho gaye the phir?" (I spoke to Tanmay Bhat bhai and asked, "Tanmay bhai, when something like this happens, like a controversy, does it make you lose your appetite?" He said, "Yes, you don’t feel hungry in such situations." So I asked, "Then how did you gain weight?"), causing the audience to burst into laughter.
BeerBiceps YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's appearance on India's Got Latent earlier this month served as the catalyst for the entire event. He questioned a young contestant, "Would you prefer to sit by and watch your parents have sex all the time or participate once and put an end to it forever?" Many people were frustrated and called him out for what they saw as the crudeness of the question.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the I&B Ministry intervened, and YouTube later withdrew the video. The criticism surrounding Samay Raina's decision to remove all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube gradually intensified.
