Sanjay Dutt has become the latest film industry stalwart to launch his own banner. The actor announced recently that he is starting his own production company called Three Dimension Motion Pictures.
In a conversation with Variety, Dutt talked about how he wanted to revive the era, which saw films led by larger-than-life heroes who became celebrated among the masses for their extraordinary heroism. He gave examples of the highly successful south Indian films Pushpa: The Rise and Baahubali that featured heroes of that nature, and said he wanted to bring such protagonists back through his new banner.
The actor also gave examples of the kind he had seen in Hollywood as well, in the films led by Denzel Washington, Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson. Unlike south Indian cinema and Hollywood, Bollywood seemed to have let go of the trope in recent times, Dutt said. Referring to the ‘days of heroism’ as the ‘golden age’ of Bollywood, the actor said that the recent trend of corporate influence in the industry really affected the creative freedoms of the directors and artists.
Regarding his production house, Dutt revealed that the company was currently preparing its slate at the moment, which includes Sidhaant Sachdev’s upcoming horror-comedy The Virgin Tree. Dutt also said that although the slate will feature films he will be starring in as well, he wanted to essay the role of producer as well, saying he was looking forward to the novel experience.
Three Dimension Motion Pictures would include a slate of films from different genres such as family drama and action as well, and will also include shows for OTT platforms. Calling OTT a crucial part of filmmaking in the present, Dutt added that all the films he produced would be slated for theatrical release.
