Sapath 2: Tota Roy Chowdhury makes a comeback on commercial cinema

Tota Roy Chowdhury's career started with mainstream commercial films. Now he is coming back to this tradition. In 2015, he acted in a film, Sapath. The sequel Sapath 2 is being made. Raja Chanda is directing the film.

Talking about the film, the director said, “The character of Ranadip Roy, played by Tota, was popular in the film. The new story is centred around the character. There is no other similarity between the two films.”

The shooting started. Tota plays a daredevil cop who does not compromise. Paean Sarkar plays Tota's wife. Tota said, “I went back to my first love – commercial films. I came here today with these commercial films. Sapath was a low-budget film but became a hit. It is also popular on television. That is why it was thought that the character's story could be extended.”

The actor and the director want to make a stylized commercial movie. There are not many mainstream movies made in Bengal today. Why did they take the risk? Tota said, “People are getting attracted to this genre in Hindi. There are a lot of scopes in Bengali too. We made many films of different types but they did not make much profit. Hence we are going back to the basics.” The director wants Sapath 2 to be successful like Rangbaaz and Challenge 2.
