The eagerly awaited original movie Ae Watan Mere Watan, a suspense drama based on real events, premiered exclusively at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the oldest and most prestigious international film festival in Asia. Darab Farooqui and Kannan Iyer co-wrote the script for the thriller-drama Ae Watan Mere Watan. Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra produce the film under their company, Dharmatic Entertainment.

Prior to the film's anticipated release early next year, Prime Video provided the audience at IFFI with an exclusive curtain-raiser at the opening ceremony, which featured a heartfelt and immersive performance of the track Qatra Qatra by Sukhwinder Singh. On November 21, the film's creators and talent engaged in a fascinating discussion titled "Drawing inspiration from history to create an immersive cinematic experience for today's audiences."

Sukhwinder Singh captivated the opening ceremony crowd at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium with his performance of this patriotic song. Aparna Purohit, head of Originals, India & Southeast Asia, Prime Video, was there together with Sara Ali Khan, producers Apoorva Mehta and Karan Johar, and director Kannan Iyer. The film's cast and crew praised the IFFI team for offering a fantastic venue for Indian cinema and filmmakers to exhibit their work.

Ae Watan Mere Watan: A love story of sacrifice and bravery

Sara Ali Khan declared at the event, "This is a story that deserves to be told," adding, "There is so much history that this country has to offer and so many unsung heroes. Their stories have the ability to inspire the nation and future generations. Through this film, we are attempting to showcase their sacrifices, their bravery, and their love for the nation during the freedom struggle. To me, Ae Watan Mere Watan is the ultimate love story; love for your country is the epitome of love, and that is what the story is about."

Karan Johar said that IFFI is in its 54th year and is a truly majestic and magnificent festival that has grown from strength to strength. When he is present here, the filmmaker can feel the contagious enthusiasm of people who truly enjoy films. He continued that they simply needed to share this tale, and Ae Watan Mere Watan uplifts the spirits. They wanted to make a film that would speak volumes about their devotion to the country, and it would be based on genuine stories. They are really thrilled to be here at IFFI for the public to have a taste of this film that will be premiering next year.

Kannan Iyer shared that they have remained true to the essence of actual events that took place during the Quit India Movement of 1942. Having said that, he should note that in their efforts to make this story entertaining, they have relied on some creative licence. Kannan would like to express that Sara has been so open to every element of the character she plays, and she fits the role so well. He appreciates her being here with him on this adventure.
