Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty has wrapped up the first schedule of his directorial debut Otta in Ernakulam. The movie, which has Asif Ali and Arjun Ashokan in the lead, went on floors earlier this month.

Sathyaraj, Rohini and Indrans were part of the film’s first schedule in Kochi, with Asif also shooting for a day. The movie will next resume in October in Hyderabad, where most of its portions will be shot.

Also starring Shobana, Adil Hussain, Divya Dutta, Jaffer Idukki, Devi Nair and Baiju Pookutty, the movie, which is made on a big canvas, is also co-produced by Resul. The film is reportedly based on the life of Mumbai-based social worker and writer S Hariharan, who runs the NGO Children Reunited that helps rescue and reunite runaway children with their parents.

Hariharan is also serving as a co-producer in the movie, which has M Jayachandran as its composer. The team recently unveiled the first look poster of the film, featuring Asif and Arjun Ashokan.

Apart from Otta being Resul’s debut directorial, the movie also marks the Malayalam comeback for actor Sathyaraj, who was last seen in a Mollywood film in 2015’s Lailaa O Lailaa. This is also Shobana’s next signing after the 2020 hit Varana Avashyamund. Adil Hussain, who is also part of Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s Ram, will also be playing a pivotal role in the movie.

Meanwhile, Asif has a slew of released lined up. His first release this month will be Kuttavum Shikshayum, which is helmed by Rajeev Ravi. The actor will be seen playing a cop in the movie, which is based on real-life incidents. The film will hit theatres on May 27 and also has Sharafudheen, Alencier Ley Lopez and Sunny Wayne in pivotal roles. Asif is also part of Nivin Pauly’s Mahaveeryar, which is set to release next month.
