Shaakuntalam: Gunasekhar reveals the person who suggested Samantha's name to play the lead

Shaakuntalam is a film that everyone is waiting for as it has Samantha in a lead role. This is her proper pan-India project and she has pinned a lot of hopes on the film which will be out on the 17th of April in a big way. Veteran director Gunasekhar has helmed this film and co-produced it along with Dil Raju.

Speaking in an interview, Gunasekhar said that Samantha was never on her mind as he had some other south and Hindi heroines for the main lead. But it was his daughter Neelima Guna who suggested Samantha's name to him, says the director. Adding further, Gunasekhar says that he watched Rangasthalam once again and was convinced that Samantha would indeed be a perfect fit for the role.

Now that the film is ready for a release, Gunasekhar says that he is super impressed with Samantha and the way she performed as Shakuntala Devi. The film is a period drama and was shot in 81 days. Gunasekhar took one and half years for the post-production work which was done in several top studios across the world.

Samantha has started her round of promotions and is making sure that the film stays in the limelight. She is talking about her divorce, taking tough decisions in life, and also doing a song called Oo Antava Mava during the time of separation. Sam says that Shaakuntalam is the toughest film of her career and needs to click at any cost.
