Ranbir Kapoor is awaiting the release of his period action drama Shamshera, which will see him play dual roles of a father and a son. The actor’s physical transformation had caught the eye of the fans after the movie’s trailer was released, and now the makers have shared a video where the actor and director talk about the same.

“Karan’s brief to me was that he doesn’t me to have a beach body. Here is Balli who has been born and brought up in the harshness of a cruel prison. He is from the 1800’s. Karan wanted me to have a bulked up workers body and I dived into it headlong,” Ranbir can be seen saying in the video.

The actor added that the movie was by far the toughest for him physically because he is a thin guy and that is his natural build. He further said that it is easy for him to lose weight but it is tougher to build muscles.

Ranbir’s personal trainer, Kunal Gir also talked about the actor’s transformation, saying that he had to eat five meals a day and was on a high protein and low carb diet, while also training five days a week.

Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera marks Ranbir’s return to the big screen after Sanju, which was released four years ago. The actor will face off against Sanjay Dutt in the upcoming period movie, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana and Ronit Roy in important roles.

Bankrolled by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films, Shamshera is set to hit theatres on July 22 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu
