The latest episode of Shark Tank India season 2 saw a company try to bring an innovative solution for an issue that still remains taboo even today in the country- infertility. One of the sharks in the tank, Namita Thapar was inspired to share her own moving personal story about the same on the episode as well.

The episode saw Vikram, Sohan and Chandan, the founders of Subhag, a home IUI(Intrauterine insemination) kit make a pitch to the sharks. They spoke of how a number of couples in the country still struggled to conceive a child, and had to face ostracisation and judgement due to the taboos surrounding the same. Their story inspired Namita to share her own struggles with infertility.

The Emcure Pharmaceuticals executive director spoke of how, despite having no problems in the conception of her first child, she had to go through quite an ordeal when she wanted to conceive for the second time. The businesswoman went through two different kinds of fertility treatments, and neither worked. But just as she gave up home, she miraculously conceived naturally.

Namita said that the reason she chose to come out with her story was because people needed to be made aware of the emotional and physical trauma involved in fertility treatments. She wanted to remove the taboo around such conversations so that couples who had to go through it received the love and support they needed, rather than be alienated.

The businesswoman also tweeted about the same.

Meanwhile, the pitchers of Subhag were met with some harsh criticisms from most of the sharks, especially Anupam Mittal. In the end, they received two offers, from Namita and Vineeta Singh, and closed a deal with Namita, who offered them Rs 20 lakhs for 1% equity and Rs 30 lakhs in debt at an interest rate of 10%.
