Sharmaji Namkeen, which is Rishi Kapoor’s final film, started streaming on Amazon Prime Video last week. Javed Akhtar is the latest celebrity to review Rishi Kapoor’s swan song.

Akhtar took to Twitter to write a review about the movie. “Watched Sharma ji Namkeen . So well written and directed . Thank you Paresh Rawal saheb for your most unusual and great contribution,” he wrote. (sic)

He added that the movie is ultimately Rishi Kapoor’s show and that his friend has hit the last ball out of the stadium. He also addressed Rishi Kapoor as Chintu, one of the legendary actor’s nicknames.

Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020 after his battle with leukemia. Sharmaji Namkeen, which was the actor’s last film, was completed with Paresh Rawal finishing Kapoor’s role. The movie, which released on March 31, has received positive reviews.

“Kapoor got into the skin of his character, and the role has been tailor-made for me. The actor gushes out the right emotions and also plays well in the sequences where he knows his cuteness will overpower him,” reads the movie’s review on OTTPlay.

Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, the film follows a new retiree, who explores life and finds a new calling. Apart from Kapoor and Rawal, the movie also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha and Isha Talwar.

The movie is bankrolled by MacGuffin Pictures and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
