Actor G Marimuthu has passed away. The veteran actor died early this morning after he had a cardiac arrest at a recording studio. The actor was dubbing for his popular TV series Ethir Neechal, when he is said to have fainted and eventually breathed his last. He was 58.

Last seen in Jailer
Marimuthu was recently seen in Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer, in which he played Panneer, an associate of Varma (Vinayakan). He will be next seen in Kamal Haasan's Indian 2, which will now mark his posthumous release.

The plunge into film industry
G Marimuthu made his debut as a director with Kannum Kannum (2008), which had Prasanna in the lead, after which he made his sophomore directorial titled Pulivaal (2014). The film was a remake of the Malayalam hit, Chaapa Kurishu. Though both films didn't make a dent at the BO, they were praised for the filmmaking. Marimuthu had worked as an assistant to a number of veteran filmmakers, which includes Rajkiran, Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman and SJ Suryah.

The acting career
Later, he turned to acting and went on to work in a number of films, thus carving a niche for himself as a supporting actor. He shot to fame with Mysskin's Yuddham Sei. Some of his prominent works as an actor include Jailer, Vikram, Pariyerum Perumal, Mehandi Circus, Jeeva, Kodi, Doctor, Kadaikutty Singam, Kalathil Sandhippom, Aarohanama, Marudhu to name a few.


Television stint

The actor was also a popular name in the television scene with his latest series Ethir Neechal turning out to be a massive hit. His character Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran struck an instant chord with the audience and Marimuthu is said to be the life of the show. He was appeared as a guest in shows like Nattamai Theerpu Mathu, Pongal Vilayattu and Vanakkam Thamizha to name a few.

Sun TV, which airs Ethir Neechal, paid a tribute to the actor with a lengthy post, "It's a tough day for all of us as we say goodbye to one of our most favourite actor, Mr.Marimuthu. He was the heart and soul of Ethirneechal and he's given us some of the most unforgettable onscreen moments as Adhi Gunasekaran. We all loved him and will continue to have a special place for him in our hearts. Rest In Peace, Marimuthu sir (sic)."

Condolences pour in

Prasanna, who starred in the lead in his debut directorial venture, wrote on social media handle, "Deeply shattered to know the passing away of director G Marimuthu. We did #KannumKannum and #Pulivaal together. We had a brothers like bond. We agreed to disagree on many. His life wasn't easy at all. As an actor finally he was doing very well. He shud've been there for a while longer. Sad. Rip. Poittuvaappu (sic)."
