The year 2023 was very eventful in actor-singer Shruti Haasan's life as she found a new groove on multiple fronts of her career. She started the year with two Telugu movies Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya — both emerged as big hits during the Sankranti festival. And she is ending the year with the release of Salaar, which has already become one of the highest-grossing films of 2023 in India.

Starring Prabhas in the lead role, Salaar is written and directed by Prashanth Neel of KGF fame. Shruti plays a key role in opening up the world of Salaar for the audiences in the narration. However, one of the reasons for her to join the cast of Salaar was the opportunity to share screen space with Prabhas.

She described Prabhas as an "interesting" co-star, claiming that his off-screen magnanimity seemingly knows no bounds. "He Prabhas is quite chill, friendly and relaxed off-screen. He’s more kind, thoughtful and generous than people would expect,” Shruti told Hindustan Times.

Shruti also admired Prabhas' ability to seamlessly get into the mood of the character and out of it at the command of the director.

In Salaar, Shruti plays an outsider with roots in the fictional city of Khansar. When her life faces threats from the unknown forces, Prabhas's Deva comes to her rescue. And in the process, she unveils the backstory of Deva, who is also known as Salaar. The film is envisioned as a two-part saga revolving around the thick friendship between Deva and Vardha. While the first part introduces the key characters and the conflicts of Salaar, the second part will further explore how Deva and Vardha turned into arch-enemies, changing the course of history in Khansar.

Besides Shruti and Prabhas, Salaar also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy and Ramachandra Raju.
