Shweta Tripathi is no stranger to the idea of trying out never-done-before roles as an actor. Be it in the form of Sandhya, the naive yet compromised young girl in the black comedy Haraamkhor, or as the very endearing, Hindi poetry aficionado in Neeraj Ghaywan's Masaan, Shweta has quite nonchalantly created striking impressions on the Indian film audience. Thanks to her credible OTT repertoire now, which comprises many engaging web series and films, she has found another lease of life to explore novel characters: from Mirzapur to The Gone Game, or Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen, Shweta Tripathi has been able to dabble in a variety of content.

In her recent interview with ETimes, the actress spoke about her vibrant acting career and the influx of “serious” and gritty content on the web. Shweta, in the interview, expresses the desire to be part of more fun and light-hearted content, and the fact that she is yet to be part of an out-and-out comedy venture. When asked whether the digital audience is currently open to only the serious stuff, the Escaype Live actor says:

“I think it’s the story that sells and not the inherent violence. In the case of shows like Mirzapur, people don’t subscribe to it because of all the guns and gaalis but the interesting characters and storyline: even in the past, one saw films like 3 Idiots, Dil Chahta Hai, and Lagaan work wonders at the box office despite not being “violent” in nature.

Having made her acting debut back in 2009 with the TV series Kya Mast Hai Life, Shweta Tripathi’s acting saw her take on small yet noteworthy roles in the independent and budding webseries space. She would rise to prominence for her riveting performance in the 2015 film Masaan and followed that with an equally commendable portrayal of a school girl in Shlok Sharma’s Haraamkhor (also starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Some of her other major credits include the web show Laakhon Mein Ek and Cargo.
