The Telugu film, Shyam Singha Roy, has been in talks since December 2019 when Nani first announced the project as an “innovative script”. Now, according to Mirchi9, Netflix has bagged the digital premiere rights for the movie. The movie will be Netflix’s biggest title in Telugu till date.

The movie is directed by Rahul Sankrityan, who last directed Taxiwaala starring Vijay Devarakonda in lead role. The movie became a commercial hit even though it was criticised for copying from movies like Dora and several other Hollywood movies.

Sankrityan has revealed that the movie will be set in Kolkata and will focus on the theme of reincarnation. This means that Nani and Sai Pallavi will probably appear in dual roles. The first looks are out and the team are getting highly positive responses. Nani is seen with a Chandrasekhar Azad style moustache and light coloured shirt standing in front of the Kolkata Royal Press. Sai Pallavi’s character poster was also revealed on her birthday and the actress was seen in a sari holding a trident in her hand. Although there are rumours that the story may be related to the freedom struggle, the makers have neither confirmed the rumour nor refuted it. The movie will also star Krithi Shetty and Madonna Sebastian in important roles.

Nani, who is fondly called as Natural Actor has not been in good books with theatre owners’ and distributor associations’ after he agreed to the direct-to-OTT release of his last two movies, V and Tuck Jagadish. He seems to have learned a lesson after facing flak from the associations and hence, vehemently refuted Shyam Singha Roy's direct OTT release. He thereby confirmed the movie’s theatrical release, much to the relief of theatre owners and his fans.

Tuck Jagadish was indeed received warmly by the actor’s affectionate fans although the critics were harsh on the family entertainer calling out its cliche elements and Nani’s one-man show. The actor is currently shooting for Ante Sundaraniki in which he is paired with Nazriya Nazim who will be making her Telugu debut with this film.
