Siddharth Anand calls directing Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan an 'honour and a responsibility'

Shah Rukh Khan is going to return to the big screen soon with Pathaan, and director Siddharth Anand says the making of the action-thriller cannot face any misstep.

Anand told Pinkvilla that there is a lot of pressure to deliver this film: "Pathaan has been designed as the biggest action spectacle from the Hindi film industry. We have the most-loved superstar of our generation with us. It is an honour and a responsibility for us. So, we can’t make a misstep at any point. We ensured that Pathaan’s date announcement video gave bang for the buck to the audience."

Khan was last seen in 2018's Zero with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, which unfortunately was a box office failure. Since then, the actor has taken over the producer role with OTT films like Class of '83 and Bob Biswas.

Pathaan also marks his reunion with Padukone, who made her debut in the 2007 Farha Khan directorial Om Shanti Om. Since then, the two have worked together in Chennai Express and Happy New Year.

Anand said Padukone's addition to the cast makes Pathaan even more exciting because the two have previously starred together in films that have gone on to become blockbusters. John Abraham, who has created a reputation of himself with edgy actioners and cop thrillers, is also part of the film. 

In a recent Twitter QnA session, Khan was asked how it feels to announce a new film after a gap of five years. The actor replied, "It didn't feel new or strange. When u are in the hearts of people like you…you don't miss you!!! (sic)"

Anand's directorial credits include Bang Bang (2014) and War (2019). 

Pathaan will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on January 25, 2023.
