James Gunn and Peter Safran reveal their vision for the future of DCU

The recent developments in the DC universe have sent DC fans into a tizzy. The new co-heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed their vision for the future of DCU at the super-secret press event. They are set to reset many of the characters and storylines in Zach Snyder’s Snyderverse. Inspired by the phase formula of MCU, the heads announced their first chapter which will be called Gods and Monsters. To the joy of fans, Gunn also revealed Todd Phillips’ Joker and Matt Reeves’ The Batman have been retained unlike some projects and will remain a part of the DC multiverse. Another interesting piece of DC news is that they’ve announced that the same actor will play their role in animation, live-action, and video games. Now that’s one foolproof strategy to transfer fans across mediums and ensuring the persona of the character remains consistent.

Doom Patrol Creator Jeremy Carver joins the Amanda Waller Spin-Off

Unfortunately, the widely popular show Doom Patrol is coming to an end and its creator Jeremy Carver has already landed his next. While announcing the upcoming slate of DC projects, James Gunn and Peter Safran also revealed that Carver will be teaming up with Watchmen writer Christal Henry for the Peacemaker spin-off Waller. Viola Davis will be returning in the titular role of Amanda Waller in Waller.

Apple TV+ show Acapulco renewed for the third season

There have been quite a few bilingual series in the last couple of years, one of popular ones being the Apple TV+ series Acapulco. Created by Austin Winsberg, the show stars How to Be a Latin Lover star Eduardo Cisneros in the lead. The series has been renewed for its third season, picking up right where the second season left off. The ten-episode season follows an adult Maximo getting on some unfinished business that his young self left behind.

Green Lantern series set to release on HBO Max

The co-heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran also shared their plans for the Green Lantern series in the recent announcement. Ordered back in 2019, the show went through a lot of rewrites. Finally, they have revealed the title Lanterns which will premiere on HBO Max. The live-action series has been compared to the well-known crime drama, True Detective as it will follow two members of the Lantern Corps taking part in a universe-shaping mystery. Seth Grahame-Smith will serve as the showrunner and Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine will play the characters of Guy Gardner and Alan Scott respectively.

Dave Bautista is coming back with a sequel to My Spy

Dave Bautista shared incredible news while promoting his movie M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin. He revealed that he will be returning for the sequel of the 2020 family comedy My Spy. It will be a huge turn from his latest project, but he is excited to film for the sequel which will start later this month. Paul Segal will return as the director with the original cast and will continue the story of CIA operative JJ and the nine-year-old elementary school girl Sophie who blackmails him into training her to be a spy.

Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham Carter among others join the cast of Four Letters of Love

Niall Williams' best-selling novel Four Letters of Love is being made into a film and a number of noted Hollywood names have already joined the cast. The star-studded cast will include Pierce Brosnan, Helena Bonham Carter, and Gabriel Byrne along with Irish actors Ann Skelly and Fionn O’Shea. The film revolves around a young pair of lovers Nicholas and Isabel with Brosnan as Nicholas' father and Carter as Isabel's wise and intuitive mother.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are set to reunite in Bad Boys 4

Everyone’s favourite detectives, the Bad Boys, are returning for the fourth time and the film is finally in pre-production. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence took to social media to announce the news of their return as the “bad boys”. Claims of the movie being put on the back burner because of the infamous Oscars event were disrupted by the CEO of Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman. Adil El Arbi and Billall Fallah will be returning as directors for the fourth film; they served as the executive producers of the MCU show, Ms Marvel.

The second season of Dexter: New Blood is cancelled

Back in 2021, Showtime network revived the immensely popular crime drama Dexter into a miniseries, Dexter: New Blood. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter reprised their roles as Dexter and Debra Morgan and the series continued after Dexter faked his death in a hurricane. In the series, his sister Debra makes a return, only as a part of his imagination. New reports claim the new series will not be renewed for a second season. Showtime has announced they are planning a prequel instead that will focus on Dexter’s origin story.
