Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams to lead 'Klara and the Sun' adaptation from Taika Waititi

Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, is set to star alongside six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams in Taika Waititi's ambitious adaptation of the sci-fi novel Klara and the Sun. The novel, a New York Times bestseller written by Kazuo Ishiguro, follows the story of Klara, an artificial friend created to prevent teenagers from feeling lonely. Ortega, currently in high demand, had to drop out of Scream 7 due to scheduling conflicts. She is also starring in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2 and working on the second season of Netflix's Wednesday, the Addams Family spin-off. Meanwhile, Amy Adams will be seen in Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch and Waititi, who recently released Next Goal Wins, has several upcoming projects, including Interior Chinatown, a new Star Wars, and a Time Bandits series. Klara and the Sun explores the theme of loneliness through the eyes of its narrator, an artificial friend. The story delves into the question of what it means to love, featuring a narrator who is optimistic and childlike. Ishiguro, the author, explained that the appeal of the novel lies in the protagonist, Klara, who brings a childlike freshness and openness to the story, remaining optimistic despite learning darker things about the human world.

Brad Pitt will work with Quentin Tarantino one last time on 'The Movie Critic'

Brad Pitt is set to lead Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film, The Movie Critic, marking their third collaboration. In this movie, Pitt will portray Jim Sheldon, a fictional film critic inspired by the real-life critic William Margold, known as the "first-string film critic for the sex rag the Hollywood Press." The film is set in 1977 Southern California and revolves around a critic who writes film reviews for an adult magazine. This project is expected to be Tarantino's final directorial venture. He expressed his intention to stop directing at a certain point, stating that directors don't get better as they get older, and he wants to avoid making films that could potentially tarnish his filmography. While contemplating retirement, Tarantino has shown interest in exploring other creative avenues, such as directing limited series or theatrical plays. In 2021, he released his debut novel, an adaptation of his film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Brad Pitt, who hasn't appeared in a film since 2022, will also be seen in the upcoming Jon Watts thriller Wolfs alongside George Clooney.

Gia Coppola, the director of the film, expressed excitement about sharing Anderson's daring and heartfelt performance. The Last Showgirl is Coppola's third feature film; she previously directed Palo Alto in 2013 and Mainstream in 2020. The eclectic cast includes Anderson, known for her roles in Baywatch; Jamie Lee Curtis, recently seen in Everything Everywhere all at Once and Dave Bautista, former WWE star turned actor with roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Blade Runner 2049; Brenda Song from Disney's The Suite Life of Zach and Cody; and Kiernan Shipka, who played the title role in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
