Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya's aerial actioner, Sky Force, was recently released on the big screen. Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kelwani, the movie was based on India's first airstrike, on the Sargodha airbase attack of Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965. Before Sky Force hit the big screen, the film was compared to Siddharth Anand's Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan. Now, filmmaker Abhishek has broken his silence on this comparison.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Abhishek Anil Kapur mentioned that there can be apprehension about one's project when a filmmaker like Siddharth Anand makes a movie with Hrithik Roshan.
"But as soon as we saw Fighter, we were all very relieved and I was not then not scared of any comparison. The leads of both films are Air Force pilots. That doesn’t mean the films are the same. Aap Dabangg aur Singham ko toh compare nahin karte ho na? The makers of Fighter had a great story and action. Our action choreography and script, meanwhile, were completely different," he told the entertainment portal.
The filmmaker further acknowledged audiences' love for Sky Force and its commercial success. He mentioned that the positive word of mouth for the movie is a bigger reward. "We all want numbers for sure as it gives you an assurance that you’ve made a good film from a commercial point of view. But the way we are getting so much love from all quarters is overwhelming," he added.
For those who are unaware, Akshay and Veer's aerial actioner earned Rs 119.50 crore in India within 10 days of its theatrical release.
Produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Sky Force featured Akshay as Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja and Veer as T. Krishna Vijaya aka Tabby. Sara Ali Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Sharad Kelkar, and others are an integral part of the movie.
