Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj hit theatres around the country as one of the biggest releases of the year. The historical war drama has had a decent run at the box office so far, but still below what was expected of it. Sonu Sood, who is a part of the movie’s cast, has now opened up about its below par performance at the box office.
Calling Samrat Prithviraj a very special film, Sonu Sood told Hindustan Times that he fot the chance to play a wonderful character and that people gave it a lot of love. He added that he is thankful to the audience for showering the team with their love.
“It might not have got as much business as expected, but we have to accept that things are a bit different after the pandemic. Having said that, I’d say I am very happy with it and with how much love people have shown it,” Sood added.
The movie has had a decent opening weekend, making Rs. 39. 25 crore in the country on its first three days. The movie reportedly made Rs 5.15 crore on Monday, taking its total collection close to Rs 44 crore. This is only 50% of what the movie was expected to make.
Facing competition from movies such as Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Adivi Sesh’s Major and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, Samrat Prithviraj has not met its expectations at the box office.
Samrat Prithviraj also features Sanjay Dutt, Ashutosh Rana and Sakshi Tanwar in supporting roles and also marks the acting debut of Manushi Chhillar, who plays the female lead.
Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films and directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, the movie is now available in theatres around the country.
