Music composer GV Prakash has bagged the award for the Best Music Director at the Osaka Tamil International Festival. The composer took to his social media page to share the news about the award. He captioned it, "Thank u #sooraraipottru (sic)."The film, starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali in the lead, was directed by Sudha Kongara and was inspired by the life of Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath.
Soorarai Pottru was produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga. The star cast for the film included Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu,Urvashi, Karunas, Krishnakumar, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkat,Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Prakash Belawadi, Dan Dhanoa, G Gnanasambandam to name a few. Cinematography was by Niketh Bommireddy and editing was handled by Sathish Surya. The film was released in Telugu as Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa, and the dubbed versions were released in Malayalam and Kannada.
Soorarai Pottru received critical acclaim and was well received by the audience across the world. It was selected as one among the ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. It was also made available for screening at the 93rd Academy Awards. Soorarai Pottru also did the rounds on the film festival circuit, including the Chennai International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
In the meantime, Soorarai Pottru is all set to be remade in Hindi with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan playing the lead characters. Sudha Kongara will be directing the remake as well. Paresh Rawal is said to be reprising his role. Suriya had attended the launch ceremony of the Hindi remake and had wished the team. He had shared on his social media page, "A new begining… need all your love and blessings!! @akshaykumar @Sudha_Kongara @gvprakash @CaptGopinath @CapeOfGoodFilm @Abundantia_Ent @2D_ENTPVTLTD (sic)."
