Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir had reportedly signed his Telugu debut with Srikanth Addala’s Peddha Kapu: Part 1. However, what’s shocking, based on some recent reports, is that the actor had kept the entire team on tenterhooks on its first day.

The makers of the Telugu movie, which has Virat Karrna and Pragati Srivastava in the lead, had finalised Soubin in a pivotal role of a villain, as per reports. However, the actor didn’t show up, even though the cast and crew were ready to shoot his sequences on the first day of its shoot earlier this year.

While the team hasn’t revealed why the Malayalam actor decided to opt out of the movie and that too at such a short notice, it’s assumed that Soubin was busy with the shoot of his own production – Manjummel Boys – that was progressing around the same time, causing him to prioritise the Malayalam film helmed by Jan.E.Man director Chidambaram over his Telugu debut.

Incidentally, there were also reports that Sreenath Bhasi was first approached for the role. But sources tell us it was Soubin and not Sreenath. Both of them were part of Kumbalangi Nights.

Even though the actor left the team of Peddha Kapu hanging, they had a back-up with its filmmaker Srikanth himself stepping up to play the character that was meant for Soubin. According to reports, the movie’s associate director Kishore had suggested that Srikanth would be apt for the role and the director, who had previously essayed a role in Allu Arjun’s Arya in 2004, decided to play the villain.

Peddha Kapu: Part 1, which also has Rao Ramesh and Tanikella Bharani, is an action-drama, which is set to hit theatres worldwide on September 29.
