We had earlier reported that actor Silambarasan and director Vetrimaaran will be coming together for a film. However, with some delays in Silambarasan’s line-up, it came to be called STR 49, which was initially the one with Parking director Ramkumar. Now with STR 49 as Vetrimaaran film, the makers on Tuesday announced the title to be Arasan, while unveiling the first look poster.

Scores of Silambarasan fans had been waiting for STR 49 update, which was delayed for some time now. On Tuesday, the makers finally confirmed the title as Arasan. The poster features a man with his face covered by a ray of light as he holds a machete. His dressing reflects period setting.
Arasan is written and directed by Vetrimaaran in his first collaboration with the actor. However not much details on the cast and crew have been revealed as of now. A promo video was shot, but that has not been released so far. As per reports, it is speculated that Anirudh Ravuchander is the music director of the film. Further updates on Arasan are expected to be made in the coming days.
Arasan is Vada Chennai 2?
Arasan is expected to be set within the world of Vada Chennai, a gangster saga helmed by Vetrimaaran starring and produced by Dhanush. Earlier, Vetrimaaran had said that Simbu arranged a meeting with Arasan producers. He had also clarified that though Arasan will not be Vada Chennai 2 (which will happen only with Dhanush), the upcoming film with Simbu will be set within the same world. After Dhanush gave an NOC, Vetrimaaran went on to use the character from Vada Chennai world, to make this film.
